Shame on the shooting policeman

The police sergeant fired a warning shot after two Labradors barked at him! He clearly indicated he is unfit to wear a policeman's uniform and better yet, have access to a firearm. By firing at the dogs he basically told criminals and the community to take aim whenever their lives are threatened. Suppose an endangered owl clawed him, was he going to shoot it as well!!!

warning shot vs a dog bite vs a dead dog?

What's next

So the dog was growling/barking whatever... surely a police officer is trained to show proper restraint. If the dog was tied up, why not avoid it and not walk up right to it? Why not, now this is a stretch, call someone who is good with dogs or even the SPCA.

That he even drew his gun, let alone fired it, makes you wonder once again as to the logic of the 'shoot to kill' order. If policement can't even restrain their firearms when confronted with a dog, what would happen if they met a beliigerent person, perhaps suffering from a mental disorder, or even an aggressive teenager just causing trouble to get attention? Would they shoot them too?

Obviously the police need better training if this is how they act.

It's not just dogs they shoot at

Did anyone see the story about the 3-year old killed by plains clothed policeman? If they go around shooting dogs for barking, its no wonder that tragic accidents like these happen.

Looney cop

What will it take for this cop to shoot again. I can't understand how he sees himself fit to protect us, yet afraid of a dog...His director should take his gun away NOW!!!

disagree

the cop tought the dog would bite him, he foired one shot to scare it off. quite frankly, if i were in his shoes, i would probably have shot the owner, arrested the dog nad kicked some ass...

One warning shot?

Hi fired a "warning" shot - he didn't shoot at the dogs and kill them. IF I had a firearm and IF I thought I would be harmed by dogs I might fire a warning shot myself.
